Milk Wood is the celtic-inspired 3d literary home of Virtual Writers. Here we learn to experiment with the Second Life® platform to push the creative envelope and develop a strong, unique voice.
VIRTUAL VENUES
The Stone Circle is available for story and poetry readings. The atmosphere is mystical; perfect for the telling of a fairy tale or two. We also hold our weekly Stone Circle Review here where our members get the chance to perform their dash pieces.
Here we hold our twice-daily Writers’ Dashes. The camp is equipped with typewriters and desks and a beautiful, calm environment perfectly conducive to thinking and creating.
Dead Wood Book Fayre portrays the fayres of yesteryear and is the place for you if you have books or events that you would like to publicize. We can create replica book covers and display them for you as a virtual book. Anyone clicking on the book will be directed to either your website or your seller’s page. This is a unique and very effective way of promoting your work.
The Celtic Writer’s Cottages at Milk Wood are for rent. These can be used for peaceful writing endeavours and/or a place for you to display your writing and art. Many of our tenants have been with us for years but we welcome all newcomers.
Writers’ Displays – scattered around the sim you will find carpet-covered carts and wagons displaying the work of our members.

March Poetry Festival
An exhibition of work and readings from Second Life®’s most prominent poets. Held the last weekend of March.
Short Story Workshop
This intensive, month-long workshop, devised to toss participants head first into the process of writing a short story (1k – 10/20k words) is held twice a year.
Each week we will tackle a different ingredient so participants learn how to construct a short story, much like baking a cake.

- the differences between a short story and novel (and the similarities)
- the ingredients of a good story
- beginning hooks
- characterization
- plot
- character/story motivation
- endings
Participants are encouraged to bring their short fiction ideas but they can also develop them during the first week.
The workshop is free of charge to members of Virtual Writers.
