Imagine waking up covered in blood. Without knowing where you are. Who you are. Hunted by a team of the deadliest soldiers in the galaxy.
This is the nightmare Arigus Vanes faces. Sheltered within the chassis of a powerful Guardian battlesuit, Arigus has no idea who he is or what happened when he wakes up at the site of gruesome murders. Government Enforcers storm in, and he flees for his life into Kingston, an enormous underground city on the industrial planet Korscia. Thrown into a world of thieves and murderers, he befriends a woman and her subservient android. Both prove invaluable in helping him uncover his shrouded past, while surviving the present. Together, they unearth secrets about Arigus and his assailants that had been hidden from the galaxy.
But some secrets are meant to be buried.
Author Interview
What are the main themes of your book?
My novel Condemned, Book 1 of the Deus Ex Machina Series, mainly focuses on finding your identity when people tell you otherwise, along with how technology continues to shape and define human nature. It heavily contrasts the differences between what makes a man and a machine, as well as what truly defines good and evil. It also follows a Jason Bourne style story line.
Who or what inspired your story?
I’ve always loved technology, so I wanted to write something in which I could expand and dive into a lot of future possibilities.
What do you like best about your primary characters?
Arigus Vanes, due to his amnesic nature and his origins, shares a lot of funny scenes with other characters due to his lack of knowledge. He proves himself to be a quick learner, but even though he finds himself in the cruel and dark environment of Kingston, he retains most of his good nature. Sapphire’s free spirited nature was also a favorite, as she stands out as a strong and independent female protagonist.
What are their worst peculiarities?
Arigus’ lack of knowledge is sometimes irritating to those around him, who often have to explain what is going on, and sometimes he puts his trust in the wrong people. Sapphire let’s her flamboyant personality often get out of hand, throwing herself and those she’s around into harms way.
How does your main character evolve?
Arigus grows and develops drastically over the course of the novel, on top of his massive development in Book 1 (Condemned). He gains a more holistic perspective over the world and the societal problems it holds as he struggles to define who he is. However, by Redemption, the sequel to be released 5/20/13, this dark environment begins to take its toll upon him. By the end of this novel, it’s questionable whether or not he is really a hero or a villain.
What’s the principal message you want to send to your audience?
Just because the world says you’re supposed to be something, you ultimately choose who you are.
What’s the nicest thing anyone has said about your book?
Where can we purchase it?
Amazon (Kindle/Paperback)
